Clarinda City Council approves Halloween Block Party and 5K Back to School Dash

The Clarinda City Council met last week. City Manager Gary McClarnon says the council approved plans for a Halloween block party.

"We have a local couple that wanted to block the street off in front of their house and they wanted to have activities for kids to keep them out of trouble and stuff.  They wanted the one block blocked off between Main Street and Stuart Street on 19th Street.  The City Council did go ahead and approve that unanimously."

McClarnon says the City Council also discussed the Clarinda Regional Health Center's plans for a a 5K Back to School Dash on August 29th.

"Clarinda Regional Health Center would like to have a 5K Back to School Dash on August 29th, 2019.  They did map out a route that they would like to do for a 5K.  They also said that they wanted all the proceeds to go to the Backpack Program, which is a great program locally here in Clarinda.  After some discussion, the City Council did go ahead and approve that unanimously.  And it will be August 29th from 4pm to 7pm."
